More than a shipyard. It’s who we are.
At PT Bahtera Bahari Shipyard (BBS), shipbuilding is in our DNA.
For over 20 years, our family-owned operation has proudly called Batam Island home, crafting vessels that work hard, explore further and stand the test of time. From humble beginnings, we have grown into one of Indonesia’s most versatile shipyards, trusted across the region and beyond.
Our 52-hectare waterfront site is more than just a yard. With deepwater access and over 300 metres of sea frontage, it is a living workspace where complex ideas are turned into working realities. From compact builds to large-scale marine structures, we approach every project with the same care and commitment.
BBS specialises in the construction and maintenance of a wide range of vessels, from rugged tugboats and multi-role barges to dredgers, crane barges, liveaboard dive vessels, landing craft and expedition-class yachts. Each build is purpose-driven, shaped by experience and engineered to perform in real-world conditions.
A defining milestone in our journey was the successful design and construction of the first and largest Floating Loading Facility ever designed and built by an Indonesian shipyard. This landmark project marked a significant step forward for both the shipyard and the wider Indonesian marine industry. Built to support heavy industrial operations, the FLF demonstrated BBS’s ability to deliver complex, non-standard marine infrastructure where precision, durability and long-term reliability are essential.
Backed by in-house engineering, a hands-on design team and skilled tradespeople, we provide practical, efficient solutions across new builds and refits. Over the years, we have also supported hundreds of large vessel repairs, helping operators minimise downtime and keep fleets moving.
Certified to international standards for quality, safety and environmental performance, BBS is built on trust, family values and a determination to deliver beyond expectations. Much of our work continues to come through word of mouth, a testament to the relationships we have built vessel by vessel over two decades.
As a family business, we remain deeply connected to the Batam community. We actively support training, employment and long-term growth, investing in people as much as projects and helping shape the next generation of marine industry talent.
